Our Purpose in Times of Change

Ahead of the upcoming election, I’m sharing some thoughts inspired by a heartfelt message from Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot:
“As Election Day nears, this imperative cannot be overstated. In our roles as anti-hunger champions, we must rise above politics, outlast the news cycle, and seek to inspire all people to stand together in a movement to end hunger.”
As you reflect on your own role, consider: Who are you a champion for?
In your position as a champion for [fill in: education, the arts, social services, etc.], think about the unique purpose you bring to this mission.
Rise above politics – Your organization is likely meeting needs beyond what government alone can address. Reflect on the value and independence of your work in bridging this gap.
Outlast the news cycle – With so much noise, focus on creating lasting, meaningful connections with your stakeholders, forging relationships that can endure the shifting landscape.
Seek to inspire all people – Embrace inclusivity, inviting people from all backgrounds to unite in your mission, fostering both warmth and purpose.
Political seasons may come and go, often impacting your work, but your mission and the critical role you play remain constant. Keep building relationships and inviting others to join you in this long-term journey.
